Anti-ageing treatments refer to a range of non-surgical and minimally invasive procedures designed to combat the visible signs of aging and restore a youthful appearance. These treatments can target specific concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, loss of volume, uneven skin tone, and age spots. Depending on the patient’s individual needs, anti-ageing treatments may include:

  • Injectables (e.g., Botox, dermal fillers)
  • Laser treatments (e.g., fractional CO2 laser, IPL)
  • Chemical peels
  • Microneedling
  • Skin resurfacing treatments
  • Radiofrequency treatments
  • Thread lifting

The goal of these procedures is to restore the skin’s youthful appearance by stimulating collagen production, improving skin texture, reducing muscle contractions, and reintroducing volume to areas that may have lost fat or structure due to aging.

Indications:

Fine lines and wrinkles: Wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines, which are caused by repetitive muscle movement and the natural ageing process.
Loss of skin elasticity: As the skin ages, it loses its ability to bounce back, leading to sagging, particularly around the cheeks, jawline, and neck.
Volume loss: Loss of fat and muscle tone in areas like the cheeks, under-eye area, and temples, causing the face to look more hollow or gaunt.
Skin texture and tone issues: Uneven skin tone, pigmentation, and rough texture caused by sun exposure, hormonal changes, and other environmental factors.
Age spots or sun damage: Hyperpigmentation caused by sun exposure or aging, resulting in uneven pigmentation or liver spots.
Dull, tired skin: Loss of radiance due to a decrease in skin turnover, dryness, or environmental stressors.

Contraindications:

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Many anti-ageing treatments (such as Botox, certain lasers, or chemical peels) are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.
Active skin infections or inflammation: If you have an active infection, acne flare-up, or inflammation in the treatment area, treatments should be postponed.
Allergies: Individuals with allergies to any components of the injectables (e.g., hyaluronic acid) or other treatment agents may need to avoid certain procedures.
Autoimmune disorders or immune suppression: Patients with conditions like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or other autoimmune diseases should consult with a doctor before undergoing any treatments that involve immune system modulation.
Blood clotting disorders: Those with blood clotting disorders or taking blood-thinning medication (unless advised by a doctor) may be at increased risk of bruising and other complications.
Severe skin conditions: People with conditions such as severe eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea may not be suitable candidates for some treatments, especially lasers or chemical peels.
Keloid scarring: Individuals who form keloid scars may need to avoid certain procedures, particularly those that involve skin injury, such as microneedling or chemical peels.

Aftercare:

Avoid touching the treated areas: For injectables, avoid massaging or touching the area for several hours after treatment to prevent displacement of the filler or botulinum toxin.
Avoid excessive heat: After treatments like chemical peels or laser resurfacing, avoid direct sun exposure, hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise for at least 48 hours.
Sun protection: Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily to protect the skin from UV damage, particularly after treatments that may increase sun sensitivity (e.g., chemical peels, laser treatments).
Gentle skincare: Use mild, non-irritating skincare products post-treatment to avoid irritating the skin. Avoid exfoliants or products containing retinoids for a few days to weeks, depending on the treatment.
Hydration: Keep the skin well-hydrated, especially after procedures like microneedling or PRP, which may initially leave the skin dry or flaky.
No makeup for 24 hours (for injectable treatments): It’s advisable to avoid makeup on the treated areas for the first 24 hours after Botox or filler injections to prevent infection.
Post-treatment appointments: For treatments like injectables, follow-up appointments may be necessary to assess the results and determine whether any touch-ups are needed.
